This species is found in most of South America especially Brazil.

Although not in the rosewood family this wood closely resembles endangered Brazilian rosewood. The heartwood is similar to Brazilian rosewood, except that it is lighter in hue between pink-brown to violet brown, and not so highly figured. It has an undulating grain, a coarse texture and is fibrous.

Santos Rosewood is a substitute for the now endangered Brazilian Rosewood.
